Does anybody know why a fridge would suddenly defrost itself? The power hasn't been turned off and the light is still on. I can't hear the 'hum' though. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Most likely there is a problem with the temperature sensor installed on the evaporator. This can be checked by replacement or a thorough diagnosis can be made.
