Little Green Paint French Grey / French Grey Dark.

My *** samples haven't arrived and we need to start painting in the next couple of days at the very latest! The kitchen is being fitted a week tomorrow.

Can anyone recommend this paint, especially the quality. The tiles and kitchen units and worktops are all varying shades of grey but I want something warmer on the walls.

I'm leaning towards French Grey Dark btw...

Ignore the tiles on the left, its the tile and door in the right we're having.

Any thoughts on the paints mentioned above would be gratefully received.

*Little Greene* before anyone corrects me.
Grey is on the way ‘ out’ will soon be dated .
Who is the paint manufacturer ? That will help us with the ' quality' element of your question.
Question Author
The "Greynaissance" might be over but grey itself is definitely not going out.

Irrespective of what is in vogue or not, I like my choices and will stick with them.

If anyone has anything practical or useful to add regarding my original question, I would be very grateful.

The Little Greene Paint Co, Derek.

This is the one, Mamya, that I am leaning towards.

My paint samples won't come today and they certainly won't come tomorrow so we may have to take a chance.
Given your tiles/door combo you choice looks fine.

I do love the Normandy Grey though with the touch of green.
CG, I can't find anything on their site as to how their paints are made. That's a bit worrying, and "Trustpilot" reviews are mixed... some completely negative.

Since the rise of Farrow & Ball, a load of often farty "back to earth" paint makers have climbed aboard.
Are they clay/chalky traditional paints, or modern alkyd or acrylic types.
Which do you fancy?
Question Author
I think so too, Mamya. We'll need 10 litres which will work out around £170 so I do want some assurance on quality.

Hi TB, F&B Paint in Elephant's Breath was a strong contender for the Hallway when we were going with their Wisteria (Neutral) Wallpaper up the stairs but we are thinking of doing the brick slips up the stairs now.

I did look at F&B French Grey but I preferred the look of the Little Greene one.
I think The Builder is right: you pay through he nose for the likes of Farrow and Ball and Little Greene. Dulux do a heritage range which you might be able to find a sample of at your local B&Q or similar DIY place:

Question Author
Thanks, GG, but I have been all through Dulux's range including their Heritage range and I cannot find a colour that I like. Certainly their version of French Grey is nothing like the ones F&B and Little Greene do.
Ok, so you're going for the more traditional formulas then?
I'm sorry I have no experience of this make. I've always used either F&B or "Earthborn" clay paints.

In most cases, texture isn't as important as some think. If it is, then chalky/clay paints can't be beaten.
If the only issue is colour, then I wouldn't dismiss the idea of scouring through paint charts and especially colours that are mixed to order at most paint outlets.

All you need is the British Standard colour number to get it mixed.
I have to disagree with annie about grey. It's no more "over" than white is ;o)
The one I've used in my own house is a "RAL" colour. It's just another bunch of colour numbers to choose from. (I have it mixed at my builders merchants.)
Also, Dulux have come a long way with their various heritage/traditional colours.

Sorry I'm not being of much help here. I really don't know about Little Greene. I just wanted to point out that colours are available from a load of different sources.
Question Author
Your input is very much appreciated, TB. We did discuss getting a paint mixed and even visited somewhere that can do that for us when we purchased some F&B samples a few weeks ago but I really like the LG French Grey Dark - it's exactly the colour I had in mind - but bearing in mind that they can look vastly different when you actually start painting them on your walls.
If it's any help, CG... I would go for it ;o)
