Saw a lovely house which would be ideal for us to move to, but on the pics we can see that next door has a monkey puzzle tree in their front garden.

Mr K is refusing point blank to even look at it as he say they are unlucky to talk as you pass them, he has told me this before but it would be a shame to miss out on the perfect house because of this.

Any thoughts?

It seems this superstition is a thing - Superstitions about the Monkey Puzzle tree can be found throughout Britain. One widely-shared bit of folklore is that the Devil himself sits in this tree and people have to be quiet when walking past or else they will attract the Devil’s attention and get bad luck. In some cases this was to be bad luck for three years.

I have no time for superstitions and never will, touch wood, but I don't see what you can do to change your husband's mind if he is determined.
What would he do if your next-door neighbour planted one in his garden tomorrow?
I am not superstitious and haven't heard this before. Neighbours behind us have one and I havent heard of any misadventures befalling them
If you persuaded him that there was nothing to his superstition, and you bought the house, would he be happy living there!

He will always believe there would be bad luck! This will probably cause friction between you in the future when you least expect it. It is not worth it - forget it !
We have a nice one in a large pot. I like it, but have not yet had a chat to it.
Trees are not responsible for luck, good or bad.
I think everybody agrees with that Khandro except the OP's husband.

BUt can you imagine the future. Anything at all that goes wrong - "I knew that tree was bad luck = I should never have let you persuade me to move here"

If someone is that convinced its bad luck - don't fight it, look for somewhere else!
These trees date back to the Jurassic period, when dinosaurs roamed the earth. They survived, whereas the dinosaurs didn't, so it's a lucky tree in my book.

You're probably right, i wont force him if he's that unhappy, such a shame.
If that's the case, then anyone who's ever walked through my local park must be suffering years of bad luck. There are 2 in a fenced seating area, and it's difficult not to pass them.
Chipchopper - but not for the dinosaurs who probably talked as they passed them!!!!!!!
Pasta - superstitions only apply to people who believe in them! Most people don't!
Very true jj.
Tell your husband that two magpies told you that both of you would be very happy living in the property.
Im sorry, but I would have to tell him to stop being so bloody ridiculous!!
