My in home display unit (fancy term for the little gadget that sits in my kitchen telling me how much gas and electricity I am using) disconnected from the smart meters and won't reconnect.
That is not my main concern here.
I put it next to the gas meter hoping they would talk to each other and hook up and noticed that there is nothing in the display screen of my gas meter. No digits, nothing. If I was asked to 'read the meter' I coulnd't.
Is this anything to worry about? Does it warrant me contacting the emergency phone number?

Gas meters To take the reading from your gas meter, you'll need to press a button to wake up the meter. Depending on your meter, it'll be either an OK button, a red “A” button or a round button between two arrowed buttons. The reading will appear on the screen. As your gas meter is powered by a battery, the screen will go blank after a short while to save power.

Perhaps go onto your supplier's chat on line service and advise them.

I'll press buttons. If I'm not back you will know the house has blown up
I'll leave my contact details for the authorities.

Thanks, Mamya. I wonder why the installer didn't tell me how to use the thing 6 months ago. All sorted now
It would have been helpful I agree, glad you're sorted.

As it happens my meter is nothing like you described, mamya . There are three buttons covered by some sort of red strip. I prodded the buttons and the display came on
It's just a power saving thing really, no need for a display if no one is looking.

It doesn't stop it communicating with the energy company.

More's the pity, Mamya :(
did the installer not leave you an instruction leaflet?

No, dave. He just paired the IHD, showed me how to use that and went. The new electricity meter is a mystery, too. I miss those clock dials
