I have a Vax Power Nano - which weighs over 2 stone so I have banished it. However somebody wants to take it and so yesterday I tried it and while it sucks up quite good - you have to really really push it hard, yes it is down to low suction etc.

To me there is something making it drag so much - anything I can look at?

look to see if the rollers or wheels are fouled up with hair etc. ?

I did Dave - no hair or dust. Over the years I have changed many belts on other vacuums but this one is the original belt.

One would think that with "heaviness" vacuum causes - the belt is too tight
Maybe you just got weaker since you last used it. :)
Mrs. bb had the dragging problem with our Vax vacuum cleaner, but only on long-fibre mats. On 'normal' carpets, the problem wasn't there. She got in touch with Vax (on the internet), and, to keep the story short, she had to buy a fitting that removed the problem.
Why are you bothered if it's going to a new home?
Is to set to hard floor and low pile? Try adjusting that setting, it can make any cleaner hard to push on a carpet

Because it is going to my sister's home and I had hoped I could have resolved the heaviness for her.

Barry - we tried all settings. She has said if she finds it too "heavy" she will buy another one. She has taken this because her own right now is broken down completely.
jenny, I wonder if there is a button on the nozzle that you stamp on to change it from carpet to parquet.
Shark is the way to go, Vax are just a pile of poo in comparison.
