My present fixed rate deal with BG ends on 31st March and they have offered me a new contract fixed to September 2022. Have to reply by 10th February and they will then switch it over, obviously I’m losing a month on the old deal which is a bit crafty. Is it worth it for 18 months or should I leave it on standard rate? Thanks.

Never, ever, agree to the "Standard Rate" with any suppler.

If BG's new deal is more expensive than your current one then don't switch to their new one until the old one expires. That said, have a look round and you may find a better deal with another supplier. Note that BG cannot charge you a termination fee (if one is allowed under your contract) if there are less than 49 days to run on your current deal.
I have always found BG to be more expensive than most and left them a long time ago because of it. I would do as New Judge says and look around first. If you do decide to stay with them you can get the new contract to start from the day the other one expires. I always do that with my supplier.
