Need a new washing machine shortly - after doing yet another wash where i forgot to put something vital in, is it worth the extra money to get one that you can add to after it's started?

I'd have thought only if you continually forget what needs to be washed. (Or drop items on the floor on the way to the machine.)
When we had to replace our washing machine (Sep 2018) we went for the Samsung AddWash WW80K5410WW. It was one of the Which recommendations and our daughter is happy with hers. Can't remember how the price compared with others, but the facility to add items (usually socks) that have been dropped on the way to the machine is occasionally useful. :-)
It would be a cheaper option to buy an additional pair of socks; I’m pretty sure it would take Mrs Hymie more than a month to run out of washed clothing given her wardrobe size.

Mind you, her definition of a full washing machine is one in which it is not possible to fit in more clothing.

i live with a very frgetful person. I will ask him to get some washing on as we don't have any school uniform for the morning ... at 9m her puts a 3 hour eco wash on, but forgets to put the uniform in!
Question Author
9pm and he
Buy yourself another uniform.
Or get 6 more, one for each night of the week !
I'd want a washing machine with quick wash only.
3 hours for a wash ?
Yes, I have one that can be opened after the wash has started and I have surprised myself with the number of times I have used it. Well worth a few pounds extra, in my opinion.

School uniform ?
Aren't schools closed for exmas?

That didnt happen today though baz. And yes the "ecowash" setting takes around 3 hours
If its any help to you , I have a hotpoint washing machine and the quick wash lasts just half an hour. Its the one I usually use and has good results.
bednobs - do you have a list of other features that the machine could/should have? Personally, I would avoid a machine that didn't give an indication of how much longer the current cycle will last. Our Samsung machine does, in the form of a digital countdown of time remaining, but I have another machine which gives no indication and leaves one thinking "how much longer are you going to be?" :-)
Question Author
I don't really care as long as it washes clothes. A countdown would be useful. I think my quickest wash takes about 30 mins but the eco takes a loooong time
It's the same with dishwashers - the so-called eco progs take forever. I use the quick wash on my washing machine and dishwasher and both work fine in terms of washing dishes and clothes.
I’m with pasta.
I only ever use one programme..30 minutes, 30 degrees, washes the clothes perfectly.
I really wonder why an eco wash takes 3 hours.
It all depends what you're washing though. Some things most definitely do not come clean in a 30 degree quick wash. Mine for example has baby care and that's done at 90 degrees for 2 1/2 hours. There is hidden dirt and germs.
Question Author
i think it has to go for longer as it uses less water maybe. Dunno if that is offset over the extra electricity used. My dishwasher eco cycle takes nearly 4 hrs
When we had our baby grandson staying, all his clothes got washed at 30 degrees, he survived and all his clothes including bibs came out spotless.
I thought Eco uses less water and less electricity as it washes at a cooler temp.
