And then go a bit pear shaped.
I was returning from the park...walking on a path bordering the park on one side, cottages on the other. I saw what looked like a child's soft toy in the distance...then it looked like a cat...no, it was someone's pet rabbit. Oddly, no visible marks on it...there are quite a few cats around there, but would/could a cat do that?

I then went to the only place I'd seen with hutches in the front garden...I let the woman know...then went back to where the rabbit was, as I didn't want anyone to clear it away. Poor woman was so upset, and just didn't want her children to see it.

I came home and shed a few tears.

Rabbits easily die of fright, so that would explain the absence of marks, and a cat or dog could easily frighten a rabbit to death.
at least your thoughtfulness saved the children the trauma of seeing it
Did what? Was the rabbit dead? Had it been run over? My cats often bring half grown rabbits into the barn.
Brings back memories of my childhood as for a special treat we had rabbit for a meal.
Wasn't my favourite, but it was sort of special....or different.
I'm sure this is not the place sqad, but rabbit is lovely coated in mustard and cooked in white wine with carrots and celery ;-) x
Tried it once, hated it.
APG......LOL......I am sure it is, but we could never afford wine, let alone for cooking.
Loved rabbit stew when I was young, but like Sqad wine wasn't ever about in our home when I was a child. Wouldn't eat it now. Mixi has totally put me off.
^^^^^ Pasta perhaps you should have put this in Animals and Nature!
Nothing more you could do other than alert the owner Pasta, sad for the children.
Reminds me of a few years ago of nearly running over a tortoise which was strolling across a side road. I stopped, picked it up and knocked at a few doors....yes, a lady keeps them somewhere down the road. Ten minutes later, owner was delighted/surprised because it had been missing for two or three days.
^ don't suppose he got far . . .

True lb...some people have no tact.
Andy...I'd forgotten about rabbits being easily frightened. It was just laying across the path.
Sincere apologies Pasta.
11:14 sadder for the poor rabbit imo.
These "half grown rabbits", just 'bits' then?
