Have you got a combi boiler? Might be the diverter valve.
Question Author
Yes it's a combi what's that valve ?
Question Author
I've just looked on Google I suppose I need someone out then
Silka, it's not something simple such as you turned down the thermostats, either a main one (ours is in the hall) or individual valves/controls on the radiators?
Question Author
Sorry I have not understand that. I have thermostats on radiators yes.
Did you switch the heating off at the control panel a few months ago, or did you turn each TRV valve, on each radiator, in every room, down individually.
Question Author
I leave all on but turn the thermostat down I just turn that up when I want heating. I've always done tbis.
Check your boiler - there might be a switch on it that you can set for water or water and heat.

Check the control panel - if you have an option for Heating Advance try that.

Yes, but what about your heating system? Did that get one too? ;-)

[ Sorry, I just couldn't resist that! ]

For a more practical answer from me though . . .

Under 'How to diagnose a faulty diverter valve' here
https://www.superwarm.co.uk/ultimate-guide-to-diagnosing-a-faulty-boiler-diverter-valve
it states
"If you are getting all the hot water you need, but no heating, first check all your time clocks and controls are working. If everything else is fine, it’s almost definitely the case that the valve is not opening for the heating"
Question Author
Haha quite Chris. Useful info thanks.
Have you got a time clock on your boiler. Even if you turn the wall thermostat up, if the time clock is in the off position the boiler won’t light. Maybe you’ve had a power cut in the past 6 + months which would stop the clock.
A power cut at my place turns the heating on when the power comes back on ! I return to a hothouse ! (And the power company here drops the power more often than I've ever known elsewhere.)

Plus, a few days ago, maybe coincidentally but, as the thunder and lightning started, the RCD suddenly switched; and again, on turn on, the heating came on, but wasn't noticed until next day when the timer reached "on time" and the house had got warm.
PS would tapping the valve with a hammer shift the block ?
There’s a little lever on the valve to shift it from water to heating (and sometimes manual). When the boiler is running, try wiggling or moving the switch. They have a tendency to stick when not used for a while.
