Is it alright to connect a garden hosepipe to the kitchen sink tap, directly ?

If so what type of attachment do I need ?

Yes it is and it depends on the type of tap.
Many adaptors available at many outlets.
Yes, why not? We used to before we had an outdoor tap.
Lots of adaptors available, depends on your kitchen tap which one you need.

This is my mixer tap and the hose connection

Which adaptor from the Screwfix site would I need to order , that would fit ?
I understand that some Water Regulations stipulate that on a hosepipe connection to any tap you must have a non-return valve to prevent back flow and water contamination.

This is anecdotal only, I don't have any hard evidence to back it up - perhaps The Builder or other professional would know.
Couple of top tips when using that adaptor, learned through bitter experience.

Make sure it's properly seated on the underside of the tap

Don't be rough with the hose causing the adaptor to unseat

:-)
Re answer by Canary42. We had to have one of these for our outside tap. I am sure you are correct in what you say.

What Canary says is what I was thinking when I asked the question initially , about connecting directly to the tap

As you can see the mixer tap hasn't got much of a vertical lip - so would webbo3 suggestion work - or would I need an adaptor that connects horizontally ?
The tap in this video appears to very similar to yours. The adapter has a different number but looks the same as the one recommended.
