I noticed the bathroom sink was running water away slowly. Then I noticed the toilet although working seems to have some sort of blockage. It runs clear and then a small amount of residue is in the bottom of the bowl. I've plunged with the mop put loads of bleach down. Buckets of cold and boiling water. All to no avail. The u been is situated behind files so not able to get to it. Can anyone help ?

I live in a duplex first floor
Don't use boiling water, Tamaris. I've had success with a bucket full of hot...not boiling....soapy water poured quickly from a height.
sorry for digression tamaris - gness - think you were right re the sign language, one for English (girl behind Arlene Foster) and the other was irish (Michelle O'Neill). I never would have thought of that.

Oh thanks I thought I'd it was grease of sorts it would melt it
^ did you sit on dave's shoulders?
I have no idea what a duplex is. I'm wondering if there is a blockage in the main pipe taking the waste away from your home. Does the kitchen drain properly? Have any of your neighbours got problems?
Have a google on youtube, Tamaris. That's where I found the solution.

Yes, Ael......the higher the better so I did. The bump from hitting the ceiling will soon mend.

They will need three, JJ if SF win the battle to have Irish speakers included!.... :-)
oh Puleese Gness - don't confuse me any further LOL

Duplex is a flat ground floor and the one above.

My flat is all in one floor. Kitchen sink is ok
ask your neighbour if theirs is ok. My sewage run is separate from my sink drain run so kitchen sink being ok may not mean anything.
A visit from Dynorod when its possible ?
You'll first need to try to find where the problem is...if the bathroom sink empties slowly as well as the toilet, the actual problem could be further away than you think. I'd ask any neighbours if they are having problems too...this may help in locating the "pinch-point".
Go outside and look for a manhole into which the bathroom drains, Tam.

Lift the cover and flush the loo. How the water runs should tell you what's going on. It probably needs rodding from there, back towards the building.

Thanks builder I'm on my own no idea where the drains are etc etc.
probably between you and the street somewhere.
If you dont have a proper plunger try this ... When you say you "have plunged with a mop". A mop wont do much unless you cover it with polythene. What you need to do to improve your plunger is put a bin bag round the mop head and secure it by wrapping some tape around the mop handle. Cut away the excess bin bag and you then have a plunger of sorts. This will give you more compression .. honest !
Now flush the toilet and when the water fills the pan, then force the mop into the base of the bowl quite rapidly a few times. Keep an eye on the binbag as you dont want this coming off. Try this and let us know how you get on.
