I took the pillowcases to wash them and saw a lot of black mould on the pillows.
Is it time to dump them?

I would Sandy, have they been resting against a wall?
Yes. Where were they, and had you been sleeping on them? Sounds horrible.
Check the wall for spores, too, Sandy and if there are any there, get rid of them. Vinegar and water should do the trick if there's only a little mould on the wall. Cover your mouth, though, because the spores can do quite a lot of damage to your lung.
you can wash them, but if they're more than say five years old, it's probably time for new ones anyway.

The bedhead is wood.
This is a very damp house. For example, a dehumidifier fills up in a day.
eughh. I’ve lived in three damp houses. Not good (obvs). Move out if you can.
Gracious Sandy. Is that from one room?

I'm house/cat sitting for a few more weeks.
I'll use my rolled up coat as a pillow from now on.

Ladybirder,
I have the dehumidifier on the upstairs landing. This is a big old house. There are 7 bedrooms
Don't leave your rolled up coat on the bed all day, remove and let it air each time or that will get spoilt.
I had a lot of mould on curtains from my more recent problem. I washed them and they came out fine.

The damp/leak problem really needs to be sorted out, sandyRoe. I’m surprised my house is still standing with all we’ve had here.
