I have an Ibea petrol mower and at the end of the Summer it would not start. I checked the plug and it is full of petrol. After a few presses of the primer rubber thingy and with the dead mans hand tied up the mower will just make the sound as if it is about to roar into action, (i.e. the spark plug works), when it just dies. It is as though it is not getting any petrol. Any suggestions welcome to save me the expense of taking it to a Mower shop?

Sounds like a carberetta problem to me, Stargazer. Most likely one of the jets clogged ( not letting enough petrol in for the sparkplug to ignite it ). Probably needs the carb jet's taken out and cleaning.

Thank you Tony, I wonder if this is something I could tackle myself?
sounds like a blocked carburettor jet, you can sort it yourself with basic tool kit and some fine fuse wire, you will need to get a new air filter.
Or a tire inflater to blow them out.
best thing is to put some new petrol in, it degrades after time try and get as much fuel from tank and pipes, try starting it first time with a can of quick start.

Thanks Tony, I will see if any of my friends know how to do this.
Ok Gazer if it's 4 stroke they are never unrecoverable.
just some TLC required

Happy New Year Tony. Now how do I know if is a 4 stroke? It takes unleaded petrol. I will have a look as I have two other machine problems which cropped up yesterday about which I will post separately. Is there a youtube clip I could watch to see how to do the careretta?
If you have to mix unleaded fuel and oil together in the fuel tank then you have a 2 stroke .. if you add just unleaded petrol to the fuel tank then it is a 4 stroke.
Can't find a clip specific to an Ibea machine .. but just go on Youtube and type .. mower caburettor repair service.
There are hundreds of them .. watch a few and you will get the idea.
Personally I would drain off any fuel that is in the tank.
Remove the carb taking care with any gaskets and dismantle it. Spray any ports and jets with carburettor cleaner. Dry and reassemble it. The chances are as others have already said ..
Your problem is fuel related .. or the shortage of it!
