Induction hob not getting hot ( pointless!) lights down the right side showing E, -, 1,3 from top to bottom. Model 490/491/493/494/497/498.

Any ideas?

No real expertise but to ask the obvious, you are using a pot suitable for an induction hob ?
Good point, OG!
Power it off at the mains and back on again, always clears any errors on my SMEG induction
Has the hob previously been in working order for any length of time? If so.....daft solution I know ..but have you tried putting a fairly warm pan of water on a heating zone to see if it then starts to supply power to the ring. The Miele hobs, like other induction hobs, have a generic fault that after a few years a couple of capacitors in the power control circuit get "blown" and swell making the hob inoperable. Easy fix if you are handy but can cost if you need to call out an expert. P.S If it starts to heat after a warmish pan has stood on it for a while it is a heat sensor problem. They have a fail safe mode that will not let the hob come, on rather than going full on, when they fail.
Just to clear one thing: Induction hobs do not get hot, the pots and pans do - admittedly then ultimately transferring a small amount of heat to the hob. But I guess you knew that.........
I do indeed Karl. But they do have sensors to detect the amount of heat in the pans and contents that are themselves gaining heat under magnetic induction. The heat sensors safeguard against runaway heat that is liable to cause serious safety issues.
