Hi,

Have removed 54 grey metal spindles from balustrades on outside steps & am told they could be worth selling. They're about 93cm long, weigh over 820g each, have 2 what I can only describe as "thumb presses" at equal intervals, bit of rust but think would scrub up fine (little more than 4 years old). Having had a quick look, new seem to be quite expensive !
I have no idea how much to ask for them, individually or for the lot. Anyone ?

Thanks

You could get a fair bit of money for them as scrap?

You could try put them on a marketplace (such as facebooks) and see if anyone needs them, if so what they'd offer?

I've not encountered them before with clients so unsure on rough second hand prices.
Have you tried looking on appropriate websites to see if they're being sold and how much for on there?

My plan was to put them on a local Facebook selling site but think you have to put some idea what you expect to get.

Had a quick look on eBay & the like & they do seem to vary greatly, from about £3 odd each to £45 for 5 upwards !

The guy who's replacing the steps did seem to think they'd be quite valuable but then depends who / how many might want them I guess.
Try find out the scrap price of the metal then try and get double that.
An architectural salvage yard might give you a few quid.
I also had a quick look on ebay and it appears that the value rises the more ornate the spindles are. Which, of course, is obvious.

Am trying to find out "as we speak" spathiphyllum, but don't know what metal it would be under the grey. Would the size v weight give a clue ?

It will be Iron or steel most likely steel if outside.
Iron: Length 847mm, Width 13mm, Depth 13mm, Weight 840g
Question Author
Not iron then, 930mm / 828g is too light.
CW1 they will be as much as someone's going to pay. Price them high so you can come down a bit.
CW1 weight will not matter, most to do with how good they look.
