Hello all

Have put in an offer for an ex-council flat which used to have communal heating. It was switched off in May 05, however having had a quote from a local corgi man for installation of boiler and pipework to existing radiators, I was told we need to fit in a gas meter.

What do we need to do to have a gas meter fitted? British Gas' customer service wasn't at all helpful.

We are due to move in within 2 weeks. So would appreciate some feedback!

British Gas have nothing to do with installing meters.
You need to contact the company which is responsible for piping gas in your area:

For the South of England: Southern Gas Networks Ltd
For London, the East of England, the West Midlands & North-West England: National Grid
For the West of England & Wales: Wales & West Utilities Ltd
For the North of England: Northern Gas Networks Ltd.
For Scotland: Scotland Gas Networks Ltd

This link is to the National Grid site. If this is the correct operator for your area, use the links to the left. If another company supplies your area, use it's link on the right.

Hoping this helps,

Chris
