I have bought some plant warming bags for my fuchia's but do I have to cut them back before putting the bags on? this would be a shame as they are now in full flower like they should have been in the summer, making up for lost time when it was too hot for them I would think.

No. I'd advise not to cut anything back now because we may experience a frost any night (my grass has already been frosty in the mornings)

It is awful for frost to get into newly pruned branches / stems because water will expand and retract with frosts in the gaps which will kill / destroy the stems branches.

Thanks, never thought of that, best wait till they forecast a frost in this part of the world then bag them as they are then?
