I have bought a mug from a popular shop which has just closed down in my town. It has sentimental value, and still has the price sticker on it, with the shop's name. I would love to be able to paint something over the sticker to preserve it, but what could I use which wouldn't just wash off during washing up?! Is there any kind of permanent see through resin or similar I could paint on?!

Clear nail varnish might do the trick
With a question such as this, I'd think it very unlikely that anyone here has actually tried to do precisely the same thing that you're seeking to achieve. So, inevitably, (irrespective of who posts here) a bit of guesswork is going to be required as to what would actually work.

However, for what it's worth, my own attempt at the task would involve a trip to my local branch of Hobbycraft and spending the massive sum of £1.90:

You can get clear waterproof tape. How long it lasts is another matter.
If the mug has sentimental value, would it not be simpler to just not use it, then you wouldn't need to wash it?

I bought four to give to relatives who will remember the shop. It'd be nice if they could use their gift!
Take a close up photo of the base and label and make a little certificate to give with the mug, then they can wash them without worrying.
