Access is difficult, so would be scaffold and ladders.

The trees are at least 50' high.

If you've had this sort of work done recently I would be glad of any information

I don't believe it Ethel - I was just about to post this:

We have two huge Leylandi trees either side of our gates, which are approx 40/50 feet high. We've just received a quote of 290 to reduce them by a third. Anyone else had the same job carried out & what do you think of the price?

Anyway, there is no way my husband would attempt to do them himself, it's a specialist job & it's also very dangerous using a chain saw at that great height. The lumberjacks will only be using ladders - they're very brave!

That's amazing! I look forward to other posters giving more information.

We have just had a quote to completely cut down two leylandii about 35 feet tall, tidy up a walnut tree and also a willow tree, 350. He is removing all rubbish but we have to get someone else in at a cost of 50 to grind the two stumps up

Thanks Doris - that's not as bad as I was expecting, to be honest.

That's a good price Doris - The price we were given was just to top them by a third & take away all the cuttings. We may very well have ours completely cut down too, but would miss them if we do.
Hi, I've recently had my chopper out and felled one of of these beasts, about 35/40' high. With the help of my father, we worked up the trunk, cutting the branches as we went. The tree overhung a car park, so we had to be very carefull that the cut branches fell into my garden and not onto the cars bellow. As we tackled the larger branches, we attached rope/cable above the cut then, as one of us cut, the other pulled the branch in the direction that it needed to fall. After a lot of effort (hand saw only above head-hight), we worked our way up the trunk, until left with what was essantially, a long, branchless, stump. We then felled that using the same rope/cable technique, along with traditional tree-felling cuts (and a chain-saw). Cutting diagrams are avaliable with a Google search. Worked a treat, though we're left with a great stump. Good luck and take care. If you don't fancy it - pay someone.

If i were you, i would shop around and get a few quotes and try and get someone honest reliable and reasonably priced. Conifers usually have reletivly small side branches compaired to broad leaved trees, which makes them a whole lot easier to fell.

good luck with it
