Are there any laws regarding bonfires?

On Saturday I did a 2 loads of washing and hung it outside to dry. As I had 2 loads I had to put some out later as well. I went to check on the 2nd load between 5 and 6 and my neighbour 2 doors down had a bonfire going and all my clothes of smoke.

I had to rewash everything today and put it out to dry. About half an hour ago I started to smell smoke again so I rushed out to grab my washing which I did just in time.

I've had to close all of my windows even though its hot!!

Check you councils website. I think different councils have different rules.

**clothes smelt of smoke!
do you a speak to them if you do ask them to wait until your washing has been taken in or at least tell you if they are going to light one x

Just checking that now, Ummmm.

I don't know them, Mallyh. That property has been rented out to various people over the years.

Trying to call my councils environmental team however there is an automated message saying they are currently dealing with an emergency.
All of my windows are closed BECAUSE it's hot...no point in letting all the hot air in!
I'd have a friendly word rather than report anyone, it's only a fire which is a fairly normal thing and they probably don't realise the impact it's had on you. x

I'm calling 101 now.

They had a bonfire last Saturday as well so this is the 3rd one I'm aware of. Don't know if they had any more last week as I was at work.
Wait until they put their washing out, make sure they are downwind and then BBQ some sardines in your garden -)
Bottle the smoke and sell it as the scent of summer gone at Christmas.
Nobody needs to light a bonfire in this hot weather when everyone has their doors and windows open.

Doing so is just thoughtless and selfish.
If you want to keep your house cool keep the windows and curtains closed during the heat of the day and open the windows in the cool of the evening.

I know it is an irritation but I think 101 is a bit OTT.
^^what Barmaid said, this is how neighbour feuds start, just talk to each other ^^

I was advised by a work colleague to call 101, Barmaid.

Anyway, I left a voicemail with environmental services and they called me back straight away. They're sending a letter to them with a leaflet regarding bonfires.
We're allowed to have garden bonfires. We're not allowed to have them in the evening though.
Perhaps you could ask them nicely to let you know if they're having a bonfire at the weekend. Explain that because you work it's the only time you have to do your laundry. They might not know and hopefully once they do they'll light their fires on weekdays. I certainly wouldn't fall out with them over it - and you will if you're not careful.
Oops ... cross-posted. Too late.
