Can anyone tell me where I can take my shredded paper as I have several large bagfuls?
As the councils refuse to have it I'm loath to put in landfill.

I take it to the vet for bedding ! Overnight guests..not the vet !
It will be fine in landfill as it will biodegrade. Or, if you have a composter, put in that, a bit at a time.
you can compost it yourself
We have a small incinerator. You need to check with your council though.
anyone living near you with horses will only be glad to take it off you for bedding

Thanks for ideas. No garden, so no composting unfortunately.
I can think of a lot worse things that go into landfill, but failing that, a dog boarding kennels might be willing to take it off your hands.
You have to be really careful with the bedding thing. Modern shredders will happily accept staples which end up as sharp bits in the bedding. If the shredder will also shred cd's and credit cards then paper shredding may be contaminated even though the bin is emptied between shreds. There is also the issue of ink which can be dangerous for animals who pouch or eat their bedding. Personally I wouldn't be happy with a vet who used it unless they were SURE it was metal and plastic free.
Strangely, our council accepts shredded paper for recycling...as long as it's bagged separately.

Spath, read the posts. The OP has no garden. He can't compost it.
If I saw an offer of shredded paper on Freecycle/Freegle, I'd take it for my open fire. Unless the paper is in tiny bits, it is useful for spreading under the kindling to get the log-fire going, and saves me screwing up old newspapers.
Don't you have recycle bin for paper?
Our council won't accept shredded paper in the recycling bin. I would take it to the council tip. It'll biodegrade.
as atalanta says it depends whether it is in strips or tiny chips. If I saw it on freecycle and it was local enough I would compost it myself. How about ask your local allotments if they would take it.
neither will ours....its the metal and plastic contamination thing.
I have separate recycle bin for paper and cardboard.Never had problem re-cycling shredded paper.
Our local animal rescue centre takes all our bags of shredded paper.
Like Woofgang, I wouldn't be happy with people accepting it for animal bedding.

danny, we do have a bin for paper/cardboard/plastic/tin (all in one), but shredded paper isn't acceptable to our council.
Naomi, probably because you do not have a separate bin for paper/cardboard.
