Like an idiot, I ran out of heating oil on Sunday.
It was meant to be delivered today. I wasnt here this morning. They often leave a delivery note poking through the door but it could have blown away. Now I could go and check the tank, but this means battling through the undergrowth and poking a long stick in the top (the guage doesnt work) and its raining. Or I could just turn the boiler on and see what happens.
Two questions:-
If there is no oil and I turn the boiler on, will it do any damage?
Do I need to do anything with the boiler - I have never run out of oil before. How does it know there is oil in the tank?
You don't always need to bleed after delivery, is there an ignition buttn on the side or front of the boiler - normally a large soft button?
Turn the heating on and listen for the boiler starting up - then press the button and see if it fires up.
