Planning permission are there cheaper alternatives to architects. I have a small block of land between 2 houses and would like to look at the possibility of building on it. Are there alternatives to architects and if so whats the difference?

A reputable Architectural Technician (of which I am one :o) ) will be able to advise on the likelihood of your obtaining Planning Permissions.
Google should be able to throw up some in your area.

You could post your requirements on Mybuilder.com and let interested parties come to you.
Oh, and we usually say that the Architects draw the pretty pictures and we (ATs) are the ones who have to get the design to work...... :o)

And our rates are usually considerably lower, too.
It might be best to seek outline planning permission first, before you start forking out money for actual plans of the proposed building(s):
