Sorry I mean how to stop it scaling .... I live in a hard water area and just put a descaling ball in the new kettle. Will this help, and if so, how often should I washthe ball, or should I replace regularly with a new one?? What causes the paint to peel off?? Thanks all
can't see the pic. I live in a mega hard water area and have got a Brita filter tap which I use for any water which goes in the kettle. Stops scale completely...if you want a cheaper option then a Brita jug will work too. I know there are other brands but have only ever used Brita so can't recommend any of the others.
To descale, get a £1.50 box of citric acid from Wilkinson's.
Peeling paint is just a sign of the kettle's age and can be ignored.
The scaling, well you could buy a water softener. Or if you do a web search there are ways to descale kettles on a regular basis. Soaking in diluted vinegar can help as it is acidic and eats away at the limescale. May want to boil the vinegar flavour off first, before using it for tea, though.
I use the citric acid too.
I can't see the picture but I bought a beautiful Morphy Richards Accents kettle and within a few months the paint was so bad I could peel it off with my fingers. Disgraceful - and I never did more than wipe it with a damp cloth.
What's the kettle brand/ style smurf?
Thanks mazie x
I must admit, before changing to a water boiler for a kettle, I only bought stainless steel ones. I don't think there's anything you can do to stop that.
TBH If I bought a kettle and that happened, if it was within guarantee it would go back and if the guarantee had passed but the kettle wasn't old, I would buy a different brand he next time
It is surprising that can happen.

Its a Morphy Richards Accent kettle.. Like Prudie ... Its the third one I have bought now to match the toaster. It has a two year guarantee... But I must admit I didnt descale the other one at all. It wil defo go back if I get more problems .. Thanks all.
I've given up on expensive kettles - I've had the paint peeling off, too, but mine was a Bosch.
I buy a cheap kettle and be prepared to chuck them when necessary.
smurfchops , whether or not you descale shouldn't affect the exterior paint surely?
