Has anyone any idea as to how much it might cost to have this done by a reg. gas safe man. Is there very much work involved? Rosy

Usually around a 10 minute job, Rosy. The cost will depend on whether the plumber has a minimum charge.

Additional cost will be if anything has to be done to the flue opening after removing the fire.

Thank you builder, I rang someone about a year ago and he said £65 an hour, so didn't go ahead with it, I like to have a better idea than that, (bit like 'how long is a piece of string!) so will now make some enquiries but probs gone up to £100 now.....
