Red Apple Like Fruit

On the Main Road round the corner from our house, there are 2 Trees about 30ft high (planted by the council) and every year they produce and drop entirely Red fruit that looks like an apple, but when you open them up the flesh is totally red. They have been there for yrs. The fruit are slightly smaller than a normal sized apple about 5cm diameter. Just wondered what they were.

I would hazard a guess and suggest it could be a variety of crab apple, of which there are many.
What do the leaves look like ?
Yes...sounds like a crab apple to me as well.

Are crab apples totally red inside?
Togo, yes some do have red flesh.
