Planning Permission For Extension

I am looking at houses to buy but the main criteria is that it's extendable.

I have seen a nice house that's perfect but want to know what's the best way to find out if planning permission is likely to be granted. Who's professional advice I should seek? I can't see any sign of extensions on other houses in the street. Who can I ask?

Ring the local planning office and make an appointment to see a planning officer.Show them your proposals and sound them out.Make them feel important and get them on side from the start :-)
Many extensions don't require planning permission; they're 'permitted developments'. The rules are here:
