Any hints and tips on how to keep my electricity bills lower? I had a friend who used to switch on her washing machine at night and said it was a cheaper rate - is this still possible? Thanks !! By the way I have just switched over to direct debit. Also any tips on the best gas and electricity provider?

I've allways used www.which.co.uk/switch to compare. It helped me reduce my gas and electric bills and l regularly check up to make sure its still the best advice. Its recommended by the Consumers Association.

Good luck and happy swapping!

If you have electric central heating, then any power you use in the house during the 'off peak' period is charged at a far lower price per unit, meaning it is indeed very much cheaper to use your washer and dryer at night. I had gas heating installed last year and took out all my old storage heaters but I still have the dual tariff meter that they ran from so still enjoy relatively low electricity bills.
