Well well well - I hope Builder can advise me.

Some years ago I dropped a glass into my toilet bowl and smashed it. Nephew replaced toilet - you are talking about 3 years ago - however, he, me, other plumbers etc etc could never could get a toilet seat for it. It always fell off.

I myself realised that nephew put me a very old toilet in with the result new, uptodate etc toilet seats will not stay on.

I paid about £50 to different plumbers to get a toilet seat on and every single one of them have fell off.

Hurray I said to myself since last last Friday my Polish guy spent about 2 hours putting the toilet seat on. I was so happy. But I wasn't impressed as I knew how hard it was for him.

Tonight I sat on it for about 3rd time from Friday and it too fell off.

Without going into it all - I know or think that when my nephew put the "new" toilet in - it was extremtly old and so the new toilet seats wouldn't felt.

Tonight after sitting so comfortably from Friday from Polish guy - seat has finally fell off.

Not in a million years do I believe my Polish FAULT - no way.

But can I say - when nephew put the old toilet in - perhaps 20 years old - the new toilet seat covers don't do the job.

Would any of you agree - it is time for a new toilet inorder to get to get the cover.

For the first time I think I am talking ok - but to put the new toilet in - who will I get. Thanks all.

Any plumber / bathroom fitter should be able to replace your toilet for you, jj.
nice to see you posting again.
20 years isn't old for a toilet (I've not replaced mine these last 30). Perhaps you got a weird foreign one that doesn't match local standards?

Someone more knowledgeable can probably advise you better, but I don't think age can be the only problem. (Yours or the loo's!)
Buy a Croydex Sit Tight seat. They have brackets that are glued on and they stay rock solid (if fitted correctly)
I share your pain JJ - my loo is contemporary with the building, so around 50 years old.

Had a heck of a job getting a new seat sorted but found one eventually , sorry haven't got details.

thanks hoppy - but at this time of night don't know what you are talking about.

nephew put me in a SHIRES toilet - from the day he put it in no toilet seat fitted. He probably thought he was doing me a favour in "you know giveing me a "free" toilet. But boy this toilet has cost me the earth.

Anyway guys - all I want is a toilet with a cover but not those auto close - they make me very sick.

///not those auto close - they make me very sick///

You're supposed to get off before they close JJ ;o)
You may well be advised not to try track down seats specifically for the old Shires Toilet - scarce and pricey.

Dear o lord, it would be cheaper to change the toilet, Mamya.

They're a lot of Pennies Mamya.
cheaper to get a whole new avocado suite, tonyav
Avacado jno, Noooooo Peach surely.

I knew it would all come to this - I need a new suite.

This nephew of mine is a kind guy and tries to get you on "the cheap" - boy boy have I paid.

The other thing "auto before the close - I am talking when I go up to my own toilet - believe it or not I like to see what is in the toilet before I go. then i can do something about - like flush - I am so bad at that.

When I was weekeneds away here and there - I had to get various friends to examine all the toilets (hopefully with the lids open) before I could go. Sorry
If you want to see what's in the toilet, you should get one from Germany. They have a ledge upon which all solids sit until flushed off/away - must be a result of a German need for self-examination and diagnosis. Makes good medical sense, if you think about it, but most people are too squeamish.
that's the theory, gg, but what you're supposed to make of it if you haven't got a degree in poology I don't know.
Would be easy to see blood in stools (as I believe doctors call them!), which might even save your life.....most people just go without looking
How does a toilet seat make you sick? Genuinely curious.
Having the seat down and not being able to see what's in the pan unsettles JJ, we all have little things that irk us I guess.
Well, it happens if you eat them too fast, Smowball.

Those German ones sound unfortunate. Don't they either cause horrible aromas, or guarantee skid marks ?
I know it's a bit more expensive, JJ, but this is one I've used before.

It features a very different way of fixing the seat..................
