How often do you clean your oven? I cook a lot and am quite obsessive about food hygiene but as for oven cleaning.......when everything is sticky inside!

I used to do it rarely (twice a yearish) when I had my old gas oven. Now I've got shiny new pyrolitic cleaning ones, I do them every 5-6 weeks, unless they are particularly dirty.
I gave my oven a quick wipe out with a damp cloth last year. As far as I can recall, that's the only 'cleaning' it's ever had in 25 years!

I don't do roasts, so I don't get a lot of grease, and I don't bake things like cakes, which require a nice clean oven. (I mainly use my oven for casseroles, etc, which don't generate much 'dirt').
As with any cleaning be it dusting polishing vacuuming, house or car, oven cleaning, do it once a week and its a piece of cake, leave it for a month or two and its a long and labourious job.
I prefer Chico's approach, except I haven't got round to the quick wipe with a damp cloth yet.
My ovens are self cleaning (I can't remember the terminology) and take a couple of hours to complete. Therefore, I only do them on nice, sunny days when I can use the generated solar power to clean them and can leave the windows open for ventilation.

Thus, in the summer my ovens sparkle. In the winter, they don't.

You only reach that stage, JD33, when the smoke detector in your living room goes off every time you use the oven in your kitchen ;-)
I get a man in once a year. It's the best £50 I spend each year, he's doing it for a living and consequently has a tad more drive and determination than I can ever muster.

Along with cleaning cars for a living, it must be a job from hell:-)
I'm getting a new oven soon and I'll promise myself I'll do it weekly but will prob end up doing what Eccles does.
I give it a wipe over once a week, then the same as Eccles, which reminds me it is just about due. Must give him a ring.
I only clean mine when it's really disgusting, and my son and his fiancée come to stay.

I remember her recoiling the first time she came here and she opened the oven to put a pizza in.

I am quite ashamed, but there's always something else I'd rather be doing.
As little as possible! OP It gets very hot and should kill all germs.
My pyrotechnic oven is one of my best ever buys. Being asthmatic most oven cleaners are a no-no for me and I have always hated cleaning the oven so put it off until it is impossible to clean.

Now I just set the cleaning cycle, let it do its thing then sweep out the 'ash' from the bottom when it's cooled. Easy peasy.
OMG you're supposed to clean it?
A couple of times a year with Mr Muscle oven cleaner, a bucket of hot water and a spare hour, it does the trick for me.
