I've heard of folk using HP brown sauce. I doubt it would remove rust though.

I guess it depends on how corroded they are as to how much you risk cleaning them.

My father used to clean some old coins with vinegar.

Ive left things soaking in Coca Cola before now and its cleaned them up a treat.
