I have a gas combi boiler upstairs in my boiler cupboard. When I run the taps in the upstairs basin/bath it is hot but when I run the hot water in the downstairs kitchen sink it is extremely hot to the extent I have to sometimes use the mixer tap to cool it a bit. What, if anything, could be the reason for this please?

Not running the upstairs taps long enough ?
Maybe the pressures are wrong. Perhaps less hot, more mains cold reaches upstairs. Although I'd have imagined cold would be faster downstairs.
Exactly the same with me: combi boiler in upstairs cupboard, and water in kitchen sink downstairs noticeably hotter than when I run a bath across the landing from the boiler. I've come to just accept it, but I'd love to know why too!
Turn the stat down on boiler till downstairs is ok and see if upstairs water is still warm enough for u

Well, I'm glad (in a way) that it's not only me! Old_Geezer, I only have to run the downstairs kitchen tap for a few seconds & get very hot water indeed but running the bathroom taps for quite some time never do I get the water so hot. The boiler cupboard is next door to the bathroom too

Will give that a go. Thanks Tony
It could be a flow rate problem Combi boilers will only heat a certain amount of water to the set temperature in a certain amount of time if the pipes supplying the downstairs taps are smaller than those supplying the upstairs you will have a slower flow rate giving it more time to heat and the water will be hotter
