I live in a ground floor property and worry about having windows open during the night.

Up til now I have a door safety chain fixed on the window frame that works ok, except its become discoloured and looks tatty. It is set up to only have the window ajar.

I am shortly having a decorator in and would like to replace the present system with something that looks a bit better maybe even something that will lock when the window is open just a couple of inches.

I can see child safety locks on Amazon, but am not sure they are secure enough to stop an intruder.

Has anyone got something they might recommend please.

cupotee2 - have a look at window restrictors - there might be something suitable for your type of window.

you might also check your insurance documents - some insurers have strict specifications these days about how well doors and windows need to be locked.
What you decide upon may well be governed by the window-frame material, which you dont mention. Wood, metal, UPVC, other?
