Good morning. I wonder if anyone knows what I can do, apart from calling in a technician. My 9 year old w/m AEG Electrolux L 72805 is playing up. When I don't use it during the week, it slowly fills with water. This morning when I opened it's door it smelt quite stagnant. It also make makes a quite Lot of noise when spinning. I can put with thT, but the water getting in I don't like. Is it worth fixing ? To time to replace it ? Many thanks.

It will be the valve that shuts the water flow off leaking. Could just be clogged with limescale. If you can disconnect it from the water supply you could try to see if the valve looks to have a lot of scale. If so fitting a new one should be quite easy.
As a temporary fix can you turn off the supply at the water inlet pipe and only turn it back on when you want to use the washing machine?

Thanks Eddie. The tap is in a rather awkward position of, Ihave got Mr. Sam crawling underneath the cupboard T the moment.
If it fills with clean water the cause will be as Eddie says, if it is dirty water then you have a waste discharge problem, possibly due to the siphon break being blocked.
My first thought like EDDIE's was the inlet valve leaking... but when you said it is noisy spinning. Perhaps the water is not getting pumped away either due to a blockage in the pump or pipe .. or a lazy pump ? If it's not being pumped away properly, then water would be left in the pipe which would smell stagnant.
Just a thought but while the other half is on his nees get him to check the pump which is ususlly accessible from a small flap on the front of the machine.
It's not something as simple as the filter needing cleaning, is it?
If turning the inlet valve off stops the machine filling with water then it will almost certainly be the inlet solenoid valve that is malfunctioning. Sometimes the cause of the malfunction is the tiny hole (about 1mm diameter) in the rubber diaphragm beng blocked by a particle of debris.

Thanks for all your answers Mr.Sam has found the tap, ( he is slightly mechanically challenged ) so as I have finished the weekly wash, he has turned it off so we wil see what happens in the next few days.Another idea of his is to get some of that delimescale liquid, fill the w/m with water and add the liquid, switch it off for a few hours and that should clear any lime scale build up. Good idea ?
No..the solenoid valve will not come in contact with the water inside the washing chamber. If the valve is the problem then and the problem is cause by limescale then you could try this;
1.disconnect the supply pipe from the wall connection,
2.drain the water out of it by lowering it ,shake if necessary
3.when drained lift it up as high as possible and fill with limescale remover
4.leave for as long as possible or until the liquid has drained through into the machine.
It might work and won't cost much

Thanks jomifl. I wil tell him, but I fear we will end up just switching it off when not in use.
The above suggestion is to cure a faulty valve, you will only need to try it once.

I see jomifl. I will see if I can get Mr.Sam to follow your instructions . Many thanks and will keep you updated !

Hi everyone who kindly answered my earlier question. I have had the w/m inlet water switched off for a couple of days, but water is still seeping in. To tell the truth it doesn't look like clear clean water and smells a bit stagnant. Any ideas what to do ?
