It's a Tricity Bendix 800 and must be 16 or more years old. When the start handle is pulled the light comes on at the front but nothing else happens. Time for a new one?

That old then possibly. Is it worth paying for a call out to see if it is a simple fix first though ?

Remind me, Minty, what and where are they? ☺
Unfortunately some distance behind the point where the rest of the electronics are failing, and the motor that isn't starting :-(
mine is at the front bottom..looks like a wee flap..don't open without a wee bowl though as water will be there..then my filter pulls out and can be cleaned..usually find fluff , buttons some times a coin !
Do you still have the user manual? if not you can get it here

I've cleaned the filter, full of gunge and threads, but still no joy. I'll have a look at Gangesboy's link to the user guide later.

After sixteen years I don't think it owes you anything.Retire it and buy a new one.

It is an old one. And I didn't like to say, when I pull the knob. People would only snigger ☺
indeed ! any luck ?
Question Author
No. I fear it's only fit for the scrap heap now. But I got good service from it
just put a wash out..sling me yours I can get them on !!
sandy have you checked the obvious? I note that no one has advised you to check that the water supply to the machine has not been interrupted. You may have to remove the hoses ( would suspect that it has hot and cold fill if it is an old machine) to do this. If the water supply is good, it may just be the switches controlling whatever cycle you have it on have tarnished contacts. Sometimes a brisk few changes of this switch will allow contact with the electrickery to be remade. Good luck.
good point Togo !
//If wall socket & fuse are OK but washing machine won’t start

The most common cause for a washing machine that wont start is the door interlock, particularly if the main light on the washing machine has come on, but nothing works.

However, the fault could also be in wiring to the door interlock, or the door catch not activating it properly, or a faulty on off switch, or even the main control module. With some washing machines (eg Indesit and Hotpoint) even an open circuit heater or motor can cause the entire washing machine to stop working except the led lights.//

Worth a try also.
Another thing sandy. Never mind changing your washing machine. But unless I missed something you have changed your avatar.
