Hey, Tony! I'm doing some gardening, cutting down an old Dogwood. I'm past the secateurs stage and have found an old saw of Dad's which I can handle and is up to the job, but it needs oiling. Do you know what type of oil is best for the job, please? I've seen replies of yours in the past and you seem to be the best one to ask on here. A 'hands-on' sort of bloke. (Oo-er, Missus!)

A wipe over with some 3 in 1 or similar on a rag is fine. Remove any rust with a wire brush first.

I always spray my saw with WD40 after every use. Might be worth a try?
Ooops sorry for butting in x
I always use 3 in 1 for my tools.
candle wax also works before you use it.

Thanks all for the helpful replies. I'll have to rummage in the garage. My sister and her boyfriend have continually dumped stuff from their house in there and it's like a tip! I know approximately where all Dad's stuff is and he always oiled his tools after he'd used them, so it must be somewhere.
maggiebee, I'm always 'butting in' on other people's threads, don't worry, at least you were trying to help!
Robinia, I hope you're fully recovered from your fall in February. I'm on a tablet that makes me dizzy, so I've got to be very careful, especially now I've got Rufus - my puppy. He's only 5 months and very giddy, likes to bite my shoes whilst I'm walking - so you can imagine how careful I have to be!
Wonder where Tonyav went? Probably needed to tend to his goats....
How lovely of you to remember S A...yes thank you, I recovered eventually but it took a good 6 weeks for the bruises on my face to clear and my knee still hurts sometimes. Took a long time to get my confidence back too.
Its great you've a new puppy, I'm envious! Enjoy him but yes, be careful...and very careful with the gardening. Way too cold to be in the garden here today.
