Friday evening, I rang to say we had a problem with our central heating.

This morning, 9.30 am, a lovely young man came and fixed it.

How's that for service? Well done to them.

My experience is even better, Tilly. I rang BG one Monday a.m. recently to report a water leak from my boiler. An engineer came that afternoon and fixed it, and gave the boiler and my gas fire their annual service as well. I know that some people say that BG is expensive, but at least they're quick at responding. I once asked a BG engineer if they would turn out and solve a problem if we didn't have an annual contract with them. He said that, yes, they would, but "...you'd be bottom of the list."

Well, I'll keep my Homecare contract then, bookbinder. Thanks for your answer.
Nice to hear good reports on their services
I know I paid over the odds for my boiler etc. when I moved here....but I wanted good service and I have to say I can't fault BG at all.......they've been first class.....

Now if BT could take a leaf out of their book.........☺
Question Author
Indeed it is, sibs. I was very impressed and he was such a nice, young fellow. Very polite and unobtrusive and he liked dogs, so he kept Tilly company for a hour. She just sat and watched him working.
Hey, I like BT, free broadband (daughter gifted it)
Question Author
I agree, gness. BT have a long way to go to meet BG standards.
If Tilly liked him, that's the best recommendation x
Psyb.....BT lied to me....lots....and I'd email you more often if they could get their act together!....☺

I sent one of my phones back to BT last week because it would not charge up properly. I have had no indication that they have received it and am going to have to ring tomorrow to ask if they have received it and are actually dealing with the problem. I have heard nothing from them. Flippin' shower!
In my limited experience they seem to do a decent job. Charge enough annual fee for it though.
I dumped good old British Gas last week, got a deal with more cover for half the price.
I happen to think that's quite a wait to be honest, especially given the weather over the weekend we've just had.

They couldn't get someone to you Saturday?
Funnily, I posted about my CH breaking down last Wednesday. British Gas were great and arrived the next day at 8.08 and fixed the problem.

However, the heating went off again yesterday afternoon and I'm expecting them again, this morning. Brrrrr.
well

write to the Chief exec, Lakeside, the Causeway, Staines Mddx

and tell him how good it was. I am not sure if he pays himself £25m a year but anyway it is lots

Over eight months I paid one bill £125 five times
I got a refund in the end but I can only describe their responses as
'constipated' = I even wrote to his wife - address see above - and she didn't answer either

[ corporate delusion that it was impossible I could have overpaid and their systems didn't pick it up ]
My mate used to work for BG. He said it was common practise for them to park down the street and quietly put a 'sorry you weren't in' card through the door.

Naughty
Question Author
We had heating but the thermostat was playing up. We had to keep turning it up slightly for the boiler to re-ignite.
Ahhh, that's not that bad then Tilly, I wrongly assumed you had no heating over the weekend :-)
Question Author
No definitely a non- emergency situation, boo. That's why I was impressed with the service.
Do they do gas mains ?

One memorable event workmen drilling thro a gas main. As it was Fri afternoon they capped the main, and so turned off a whole sector of the city of Manchester and went home !

The emergency response was to turn us all off at our meters
and go home again. - saying if anyone tried to reconnect we would be prosecuted under the criminal law

I had smelt the gas leak in the street
but in reporting it
there isn't a box to tick for gas smell outside the house

you have to tick the box for gas smell INSIDE the house
so I got special turn off treatment
and wasn't turned back on without a Special Check
week days only
