The toilet seat is one year old, and the seat closes properly, but the lid has lost its slow close and comes crashing down.

Is there a way for it to be repaired? Thanks Abers x

Thank you for your reply danny.
I didnt think of looking below for previous questions.

Ah, so theres no way to fix it, and will now ring Wickes to complain and see where we go from here. Weird how lid has gone though, it being just less than a year old. Cheers danny.
Once in a while our loses it's slow close function. As the seat can be removed easily what I do is take it off of it's mounting posts (wickes seat)
and put screwdrivers through the holes in the lid. Force them all the way back beyond the point where the dampers would operate in normal circustances. This seems to solve the problem ... until the next time.
Otherwise approx. £35 get's you a new seat.

alava, that seems very technical, but sounds about right.

Knowing Mr Puss, he will give that a go after lunch! Thanks alava

Mr P has just said that he doesnt want to keep paying £35 for a new seat.
He will give it his best shot and hope for the best, or farewell to £35, lol
I absolutely hate loos with a slow close function and just don't see the point!
The seats are uncommon here in the U.S., but depending on the brand, everything you could want to know seems to be here and seems to be relatively straight forward to repair.

was going to buy one but if there that fickle i'll not bother

Thanks for the link clanad. Sorry for late posting, thought that was it!

Will get Mr p to look and try what you have posted on that video link concerning the lid of the toilet. if he cant mend it, he says he will just go back and use it as a crash down lid! Wouldnt buy another one if they dont last long. lol
My soft close toilet seat has broken at the lid too, the seat still goes down softly. The problem is, someone forced the lid down cos they didn't know it was a soft-close. And you can't go round telling every visitor who uses your loo not to force the lid down. For one reason, you might forget to tell everyone, and for another, it feels like you're being fussy. :-(

Marijn, I know what you mean. Maybe someone forced it down, maybe not as it suddenly crashed down one down when we had no visitors.
We go t used to our new toilet seat very quickly as i found out when visiting sister in law soon after. used her loo and let the lid go down, and it did go down with such a loud bang! I couldnt apologise enough, haha
Maybe they had weakened it by forcing it down, they are not to know cos they would've manually closed it like any other loo lid if they didn't know any better. Haha, I hadn't thought of it the other way round; where you'd let ordinary ones down with a crash :-). Can you let me know if you DO manage to fix yours, cos if you do, I'll try to fix mine.
