The inlaws have just bought themselves a new 3 piece suite and my father in law has decided he is going to use the timber frame out of the old one for kindling for his log burner.

Is the wood safe to burn?

I used an old bed as kindling over the winter, caught a treat without any harm being done, can't see a sofa frame being any different.

The mother in law was thinking that they treat the material to make it more fire retardant butddidn't know if the frame would be to
Good point, I hadn't thought about that, I'd just try setting fire to a bit then to see if it will burn, I suspect it will be fine.
It will have been pressure treated with fire retardant chemicals and possibly other things like anti fungal treatments. I suspect it wouldn't burn well and the chemicals might damage the wood burner, chimney or you... Probably not worth the risk
Question Author
he's going to try it and see what happens
It is the fabric cover that gets treated with fire retarder not the wood frame. The wood will burn well.
Question Author
turns out the frame is mostly made out of chipboard so theres not much to burn
