Shared Garage Roof Asbestos

My garage roof joins my neighbours it is the corrugated type roof. She said that her roof has developed a hole and as her house is council or housing assn they have inspected it and told her it is asbestos and not to go in. We checked mine and it looks perfect.

I don't think they will be able to just remove her half and it is probably best to get the whole roof replaced as asbestos is dangerous. I know that she doesn't have to pay anything but does anyone know how much it is likely to cost me.
Would appreciate advise.

Mo, this "problem" comes up quite often.
It's a type of fibre reinforced cement. The fibre is in very small quantities, and of very low risk. To be affected by it, you would have to be standing over it, sawing it up and snorting the dust.

Even then, you'd most likely be at more risk snorting your exhaust pipe.

The HSE (Health & Safety Executive) classify it as very low risk, and removal is not even notifiable.

"Officials" always panic over this simply to cover themselves. That's the way they think. Let them get on with it. Technically, their half can be replaced while leaving yours intact, with a watertight joint between the two.

Certainly don't worry over it.
