Hi I am wiring in some downlighters at home. They do not require earthing. I am using 1.5mm twin and earth cable, do I just snip off the earth cable nearr to the outer sheathing? or do I have to connect the earths in terminal blocks and connect to the earth clamp of a nearby socket?

Any answers much appreciated.

Assuming these are mains voltage, and not 12 volt.....

Just make sure the earth is connected back at the "origin", Jonners........... that's either a junction box or another light fitting. This will protect the cable.
You then just terminate the earth at the lamp. Good practice is to slip some earth sleeve over it and bend it back out of the way.

You won't do any harm by just snipping it off before the lamp. It's simply not as neat.
Also, should have said............... if you're looping from one lamp to another, link the earths right down the chain, then snip the last one off.

Just to clarify. I am linking 6 mains voltage downlighters, I am tapping into the original lighting circuit to a junction box, then looping in to each downlight. So you would earth into the main existing light? then earth the junction box? then as I loop the wires into the downlighter fittings put the earth wires into terminal blocks terminating at the first and last light? Cheers again.
That's it Jonboy :o)
