What is the best way to mend a small hole in my new jumper? I've only worn it a couple of times and it has come out of the washing machine with a small hole on the back.

Would it be best to try and sew it or to try and iron a small patch underneath, in the same colour obviously?

It is only a small hole but I want to stop it getting any bigger as I really like this jumper!

Google, darning.....
darn it, try google for a video.
what is the jumper made from?
LOL
Darn it in stocking stitch in a matching wool. Don't iron a patch onto it. Best thing to do is to weave the repair stitches around the hole, then across the gap.

Cheers all, looks like I'll be getting my darning needle out. Even if I make a mess of it, at least I will have tried!
Make sure that the wool you use is of the same consistency as the garment, otherwise it might wash differently next time....
If you've only worn it a couple of times take it back and exchange it. I'm assuming you didn't knit it yourself.
If it was an expensive jumper, it should have had a piece of matching wool attached to it. If not, you will be able to match any colour if you can find a shop which sells tapestry wool.Tapestry wool will need to be unravelled into thinner strands. Try to darn it from the reverse side.

I definitely didn't knit it myself Maydup! I think there might be something in my washing machine snagging clothes, it has happened before but I thought it had been sorted.

I never thought to check for a spare piece of wool, it wasn't expensive but I'll have a look when I get home. Aren't they usually attached to the tag inside? I don't recall seeing one but you never know!

Otherwise it will be off to the shops at the weekend for some wool :-(
