Friend's Boiler

My friend got Phoenix gas installed about 3 years ago and put the boiler in the attic. In the beginning she had to climb into the attic and do "something" to the boiler because of low pressure.

This sorta eased off for her but now with a sprained shoulder problem has started again.

She paid over £170 for a part last Thurs or Friday and boiler still not working. She gets heat when she goes up into the attic and does something to this boiler.

Company have said they don't know what is wrong and may need a different part.

Does she have to pay for this new part. It is awful when one cannot get a good and genuine engineer. She is 64 years of age and in a right state.

To be fair to them, Conn, they may well be perfectly genuine. So much with fixing faults on modern boilers is a matter of trial and error. Whereas with a car fault, it's usually localised, presenting an identifiable problem, so many boiler parts are interdependent. One cheap little thermistor could give a fault that appears to be with a major (expensive) component.

Not a perfect state of affairs at all. The only answer is to find someone with experience of this particular unit. Someone who can say "oh, I've seen this problem before. It's usually the .... etc )

Strange and "irrational" faults are often caused by a problem with the circuit board for instance. The trouble is, once a part has been substituted, it becomes second-hand.

Keep plugging away at trying to find an experienced engineer. I would contact the manufacturers for names of qualified installers/repairers in your area.

thanks builder for your answer - I will leave it alone - my friend does have dreadful luck with various workmen - it will be sorted eventually I am sure. I have enough going on with myself. Conne
