I have a king size bed (a 2 piece drawer divan base) where the mattress (we have had it for about 5 years) sinks in the middle because myself and my partner are both quite large people. Would buying a memory foam topper mattress (say 4in thick) be a cost efficient alternative to buying a new sprung mattress. We do turn our original one both laterally and over. Or would we just have to bite the bullet and get a new one. Thanks!

Like you barney we are not small people and the bed centre that we went to politely explained that they would no recommend a memory foam mattress for us
If the underlying mattress isn't that good...a topper won't improve it.
Bite the bullet!
New one!

Thanks guys...i thoght it more than likely i was going to have to shell out for a new sprung mattress.
Have you thought of having individual mattresses which join in the middle? Each one can sleep on their side and not be falling into the middle.
i'd get a new one ,we bought a topper and it was quite expensive wish we'd just gone for a new mattress straight away
our 4inch topper is great, very comfy and as long as you leave it uncovered each morning it reshapes and airs, I love it. a shop that sells beds and mattresses is not going to recommend a product they can't sell u
for what it's worth? I'm only about 10 stone but my mattress is quite old and sinking at the side were I sleep. However, I found that I had a few old pillows and put those UNDER the mattress which added support to the bottom of the springs and leveled out the top surface of the mattress. Job's a gud un! Try it before splashing out on a new mattress.
I repeat...a mattress topper will not improve this situation where the mattress sinks in the middle....it will still sink in the middle.
Why are you both in the middle of the bed !!!!?
I agree that you would need a decent mattress but it could be your bed is broken. still think the topper is ace, but if our bed was broken it wouldn't work
