Dual flush button like this- problem is to get short flush i have to fully depress the button and hold it for a few seconds and release until it slowly pops out.
My kids just press button and flush goes on verrrry lonnnng cycle
The upper small button cannot be pressed on its own at all.
Has it been fitted wrongly?

Although they can be set up differently, the small button should be useable on its own for a short flush.
There really shouldn't be a long cycle at all. It sounds as though the button mechanism is sticking down, and producing a continuous flush.

Very easy things to work on. I would take the push button assembly off and reset.
