I want to d a hanging basket with winter pansies,I got a gardening booklet selling bulbs, seeds etc. and I noticed small pansies(could be Violas, something like that) which I prefer to the larger pansy(they seem to go straggly and ugly after a while) but I threw the booklet out.Can anyone advise me on this?

sorry:do a hanging basket
Yes the small sweet ones are Violas which I also prefer. they're not so easy to come by in the Winter though.
B and Q? Homebase or your local nursery will have plants soon, check that they are winter flowering, or browse here, look for "small flowered"

...Violas
Question Author
yes,Frank,that`s the ones I mean...thanks
Violas will not survive...winter flowering pansies will....variegated ivy as a trailer..or a winter flowering jasmine that you could then put in garden as a climber in the spring....
Just had to say this and then I will go

kloofnek ~ I am just up and not awake, the title of your post made me snigger. There has to be a joke there somewhere. :-)

Sorry all that I have not ot back to you sooner...been out for the day.Wolf63,not quite sure what you mean...there is no double meanning to my post title.

Murray.Jasmin.must as I love it,won`t do .it is just baskets I want to do.
Cyclaman..not keen on that, always thought is was an indoor plant.

It will have to be normal pansies...can I sort of "prune" them to stop them getting straggly.?

Your title is fine, my sense of humour is twisted.

My parents were both keen gardeners but they failed to pass on to me the. relevant gene.
