When i flush the toilet i hear a little hissing sound from the cistern when the water is supposed to be filling up and its filling up by a little trickle, the cistern is taking about 15-20 minutes to fill because of this.

My husband has had a look he can't see any problems, just wondered if anyone had any ideas.

The toilet has a push button flush on the top.

many thanks

It sounds as though the inlet valve is blocked ... as the water only has a tiny hole to flow through, it does'nt take a lot to block it. You will be surprised at how many bits and pieces are flowing through our fresh water supplies. I would turn the supply off that feeds the cistern. Then dismantle the inlet valve, and check for blockages. Clean it out and then...

Sounds like it's not opening properly. Back in the day one could bend the metal bar to ensure it opened more. Can only suggest it probably needs replacing.

I would turn the supply off that feeds the cistern. Then dismantle the inlet valve, and check for blockages. Clean it out and then re-assemble the valve. Turn the water on and test it.
If a newish house or a newly installed cistern/toilet, it should have by law a means of isolating for maintenance. Check that this is in the fully open position, If OK proceed with alavahalfs advice.

Thank you for all your replies.

Alavahalf, My husband did what you said he couldn't see any blockages, but after putting it back together again the cistern is filling up much much quicker. It still makes a little hissing noise though, it looks like the problem could be the rubber inlet washer it looks ok but thats were the hissing noise seems to be coming from, so we are going to replace it B&q do our particular make but its out of stock so had to order one from Ebay, should be here tomorrow.

Thanks again
Bongoboy - maybe the hissing noise is coming from the p sing noise you and hubby make - wouldn't worry about hissing noise as long as it flushes - mine takes forever and my sisters forget it - if you have a poop - try next day to flush unbelievable.
Just replace the rubber inlet. This solved our problem
