Re-Stuffing Sofa Cushions

I have two sofas, Laura Ashley, six years old with squishy cushions. The most used sofa is getting rather flat so I have asked local upholsters about having them re-stuffed. They are trying to persuade me to have foam replacements as they can't guarantee the life of the fibre fill/batting replacements, saying they may go flat quite quickly.
If the original stuffing was fine for six years I would be happy with that but am now thinking, if I go ahead, an inferior stuffing may be used, with no guarantee. I may as well do it myself if that is the case.
Has anyone had squishy sofa cushions re-stuffed with success?

I had my sofa restuffed with solid foam and it is like sitting on a brick wall and so has been relegated to the conservatory so I wouldn't succumb to their suggestion.
I'm sure you could make as good a job of it as they could so go ahead....
- or get one of your 'girls' to do it....

Hi Shoota....That's what I thought. Last lot of furniture was OH's choice and like being in a waiting room... my legs didn't reach the floor. Bought squishy when OH was too poorly to argue and love curling up in it.
Think I will give it a go...can't spare the girls to do it..... ;-) x
Best stuffing is horse hair as it doesnt lose its spring
Could you rotate the cushions?
Question Author
Re crosswords Shoota....love quizzes and often look in but not brave enough to answer except when nail painting....and then missed your answer.x

Thanks Tambo and Shoota...cushions are rotated regularly....just beginning to clump all over now. Will look at horse hair.
Paint your nails more often.....
Ask in Laura Ashley what they use-maybe they can suggest a supplier or someone to do it.

Tried LA once before Pasta and got nowhere but will perhaps try again.... even if they'd supply new uncovered cushions...that's a thought.
There are many different densities of foam used by uphosterers, from super-spongy to almost rock solid. They should be able to allow you a practcal test on these different types to see which might best resemble the original fibre stuffing.

Thank you Heathfield.....I plan to do that when I next go to town...they just seemed so pushy about foam over fibrefill. Still getting nowhere with LA.
