Hi AB'ers, I'm with EDF as my energy supplier. They have sent by post a 'free insulation offer' for my home. It says nothing about any charge whatsoever, but do they hide additional stuff then land you with a bill? What's the catch? T.I.A

Arrange for someone to call.
There are 'limits' to the offer, i.e. our loft was larger than the sq. m. of insulation they allow, but we could have paid for them to fit the extra amount.
But we had injected cavity-insulation done *for free* on Friday........
read the T&C's carefully, eon did mine totally free but a neighbour had theirs done and when it was finished a bill for the scaffolding arrived and after closely reding the small print again it did infact say the insulation was free but any additional costs such as scaffolding were the responsibility of the homeowner

Sounds good jackthehat, probably best as you say to get a visit and simply ask then, our house isn't big, has old insulation and polystyrene ball cavity insulation, some of which came out courtesy of the window fitters. I'll post at a later date and let you know how it went. Many thanks..
The government has provided grants for this sort of work, and now there are many companies all involved in the bun-fight to get the work and then apply for the grants.

danchip makes a good point.....make sure that there are *no* hidden costs, ours was a completely transparent transaction but, no doubt, there will be some firms who 'try it on'.

It certainly does no harm in getting someone to call round and discuss your options.

Good luck!

I've just called them up, apparently because I'm not on benefit or pensionable age or child tax credit, I don't qualify. The letter is very misleading as the terms of qualifying are under an 'extra £200 reward' offer which I accepted I'd not get anyways. Thanks.
That's a shame! :o(
I just clarified with Mrs JtH.....

We had no such restrictions on ours.

Have a look through here:

It's a great shame. We had no restrictions on ours either, we had cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and a new extra thick jacket for the tank, all for absolutely nothing.
That's what I was going to say if you hadn't - watch out that it only applies to people on certain benefits.

That's a great find jackthehat, I can try both British gas and Scottish power and see what they can do. Cheers :)

Update, phoned British gas on 22nd Nov.... still waiting for visit....... They called me last week to say I didn't qualify as I'd missed the 30th Nov deadline. They didn't realise I'd booked before that date and they had given me a reference booking number which is now with contractors. So it's to be honoured (we'll see). I'm not holding my breath...
