we are deciding on moving into a new rented place, one house has oil heating and one has gas though the house with gas heating maybe allready taken by tomorrow, anyway if we do take the house with oil fired central heating would it be more economical to buy like 3 oil filled radiators and place them around the house instead of filling the oil tank up probably at a cost of £1000 or more ?

advice please.

thanks

we really like this house, pity its not gas fired, what about a supersur gas heater ? or two of them or even halogen heaters they are meant to be very cheap to run.

The cost of filling a tank is irrelevant Golders............. oil filled rads run on electricity which is generally more expensive per unit of heat than even oil (unless used off peak)
it depends how big your tank is how much it costs to fill up surely??

so cut a long story short, what should we do ? as i say we really want this house, only drawback is oil central heating though its only a 2 b/room home but it will be freezing in wintertime as we are all too aware.

supersur ?
why don't you want to run the oil-fired central heating? Space heaters of any kind are going to cost you more in the long run. Where did you get the £1000 price for filling your tank? - others are saying it's much less.
well tiamarias and builders answers seem to sum it up
I would definitely use your central heating instead of buying expensive secondary heating. I don't think there is much difference between gas and oil costs these days. Good insulation is a must also.
